The Galler Group has conducted searches for educational, health-care, social service, arts, cultural, and environmental organizations large and small. At least two Galler Group principals are involved in every search. To begin the search process, The Galler Group conducts confidential interviews with key staff and trustees. The information generated enables us to help an organization formulate an accurate job description, and clearly state the personal and professional qualities desired in candidates. We also will assist in creating an attractive compensation package.

Client Needs Addressed

The Galler Group executes a search through a proven process that flexibly accommodates each organization's situation and needs while addressing important questions such as:

  • What are the top qualifications for potential candidates?
  • Which target sectors are likely to attract the best-qualified, and most diverse candidate pool?
  • What are the current trends in compensation?
  • Once the right hire is made, what should the institution do to help integrate that person into the organization?

Executive Search Services
Based on our mutual understanding, The Galler Group develops a position specification to be shared with potential prospects and sources alike. We work with you to determine the geographic scope of the search and the key sectors from which to recruit. We also develop the process for involving a search committee in candidate interviews.
Once the specification is approved, we draft a version for placement in selected industry publications and appropriate web sites. Advertising will never drive the search process. It is a complementary and concurrent activity designed to help assure thoroughness.

In the first weeks a Galler Group principal meets with staff, board members or key volunteers whose insights are deemed critical to the process, so that we can gain insights to help us best represent the opportunity and assess potential candidates.

Within six weeks, the Galler Group search team meets with you to review the backgrounds of selected pre-qualified prospects. This review meeting helps ensure that the search is calibrated appropriately and offers the opportunity to provide the client with any important market feedback. In our experience, at least three to five of those individuals are selected to move forward as candidates.

The Galler Group then provides written assessments of the chosen candidates' strengths and weaknesses relative to the position's requirement. In-person interviews with the client and/or Search Committee and others are scheduled. Each interview is followed by debriefings with both the client and the candidates.

Once one or two finalists are identified, The Galler Group conducts extensive reference checks that are summarized in a confidential report. We also recommend the compensation package most likely to attract the individual. Once the offer is determined, we assist the institution in negotiations with the finalist.

Finally, The Galler Group continues to partner with clients throughout the first year that the incumbent assumes his or her position. We stay in close contact to facilitate a successful transition and integration into the organization.

"Excellent communications, thorough preparation, great candidates and terrific follow through."
